Throughout the evolution of cosmetics, research has been aggressively pursued, leading us to the modern era with the introduction of nanotechnology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is nanotechnology important in cosmetics?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Cosmetics can be defined as items used for cleansing or altering the perception of an individual&#8217;s physical appearance, leading to an enhanced state of beauty\u2014even though this parameter is extremely subjective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>READ ALSO:<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nanomnia.eu\/en\/nanotechnology-what-are-its-applications\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"http:\/\/nanomnia.eu\/nanotecnologie-quali-sono-le-sue-applicazioni\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nanotechnology: What are its applications?<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>For these purposes, nanotechnology plays a vital role by intervening in factors such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ingredient dispersion;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optical properties of pigments and dyes;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Distribution of hydrophobic substances;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Preservation of photosensitive and chemically unstable ingredients;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Controlled release of active ingredients;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hydration;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UV protection for the skin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For instance, a cream may be presented as a soft emulsion that amplifies a fragrance, while the active ingredients are better preserved and absorbed by the skin to ensure prolonged action, anti-aging effects, and optimal skin hydration. Everything is aimed at enhancing the perception of beauty. In products like deodorants, toothpastes, shampoos, lotions, and nail polishes, nanoparticles are used to alter properties such as color, transparency, solubility, and chemical reactivity. Generally, the nanomaterials used can be either organic or inorganic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which types of nanoparticles are used in cosmetics?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For each of the two classes mentioned above, different nanoparticles are used based on the specific need. For the <strong>organic group<\/strong>, liposomes and natural polymeric nanoparticles are typically used. For the <strong>inorganic group<\/strong>, we find fullerenes, micro- and nano-oxides of zinc and titanium, and silica microparticles. Developed by L&#8217;Or\u00e9al in the 1970s and patented in 1987, they are used in products like the Lanc\u00f4me line\u2019s creams, shampoos, and skin whiteners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lipid Nanostructures<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>These are an evolution of lipid nanoparticles. They guarantee a higher encapsulation capacity and better preservation of active ingredients combined with very low toxicity. The commercial name for this category is <em>NanoRepair Q10<\/em>, present in over thirty commercial products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nanoemulsions<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Nanoemulsions are dispersions of oil in water stabilized by surfactants. They are translucent, have low viscosity, and can solubilize chemically challenging active ingredients very well. Their rapid dermal penetration makes them ideal for moisturizing and anti-aging products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dendrimers<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Dendrimers are unique nanoparticles with branched &#8220;arms&#8221; on the surface, allowing for the precise and selective targeting of active ingredients.
